First Impressions: New Badlands Ion Pants
In case you have been hiding under a rock or found yourself away from a computer for the past year, Badlands has come out with a new line of bio-thermic camouflage clothing. I’ve been following the progression closely on Twitter, Facebook and hunting forums and I was fortunate enough to be selected by Badlands to review the new Ion Pants. The gear review will be coming shortly and I wanted to share my first impressions.
The first thing that crossed my mind when I unfolded the pants was that these are definitely a mid-weight pant. It is not super lightweight, but not overly heavy either. Going to be great to test these out in Southern California.
The material is very soft and comfortable. It makes virtually no noise when walking around my house, but I wasn’t wearing my boots or busting brush. My only concern for this material is static and noise. We will see what happens!
Kick ass new digs from Badlands. |
The zippers are re-enforced and covered with the same style waterproofing system as on the Badlands packs. This can be a great feature for wet weather, which we do get out here from time to time. For the high desert I think these might protect from dirt and items falling out, but I wonder how noisy they are?
One of the things I immediately noticed was the pocket lining. The pockets are lined with a solid fleece material which is not only good for warming your hands, but it also makes no noise. Double bonus!
I am digging the Nylon re-enforced belt loops as you can clip something onto any of the loops for added carrying space and it makes the loops that much stronger.
The overall fit is something I will continue to test out. The pair I received were an XL and since I recently lost most of my baby fat I realize that I have to go down to a size L instead. Once I have them in hand I will be running them through the gamut. Hmmm… running in them might be interesting, too.
Be sure to check out the Sole Adventure blog where Mark has shared his first impressions of the Badlands Velocity Jacket. Mark’s reviews are honest, thorough and interesting and I know I am excited to hear what he has to say about the new gear. Also having lost some weight with a focus on fitness, Mark has had a dilemma…
I don’t have any hunting clothes that fit me anymore. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
This should fit very well into his review. In case you missed his post about new clothing, here is the link.
Stay tuned!
