With the opening of deer season looming in Southern California, I wonder how many hunters will be hitting public and private land. There are plenty of tags still available and opportunities abound, if you put the work in. Have you been scouting? Did you see any legal bucks on your trail cameras? It is forest fire season, so do you also have a plan in case you find yourself in or near one? Deer season is a challenge in more ways that one and preparing for it is a must.
I’ve been preparing for deer season in many ways. I’ve place trail cameras and done my research online. Checked on the active fires more than a dozen times. Most of my focus has been consistently shooting my bow. That has brought me plenty of happiness in the last few months. Shooting my Mathews VXR with my Victory arrows simply brings me pleasure and relief from busy days and allows me to keep my eyes on the prize. We all know it’s not easy right now, but we do what we can to make the days better.
How many of you are heading out this Saturday to scout or hunt? Drop me a comment below and let me know. I’d love to hear what you all are doing in preparation for hunting season. I have some opportunities coming up for me to hunt out of state, but time will tell if they come to fruition. For now, my focus is on hunting here in SoCal and I can’t wait to go!
