If you have a child or a young person you know that wants to kill his first deer then the following article is for you. I read this over at The Outdoor Wire today and got very excited! This is a great way to get our young people outdoors and involved in hunting. Best of all, it’s at a great location and promotes youth hunting.

The California Deer Association (CDA) recently announced it will hold its 7th Annual “Sharing the Tradition” junior deer hunts at the famous Tejon Ranch. According to CDA Vice President, Jerry Springer, “These hunts are the most successful junior deer hunts in California.”

Again this year, 25 junior hunters will be drawn at random for free one-on-one guided antlerless deer hunts on the 270,000-acre Tejon Ranch located in Southern California. This is the largest privately sponsored junior deer hunting opportunity in the state. Plus, these are no ordinary deer hunts, thanks to generous sponsors Tejon Ranch, Federal Premium Ammunition, Alpen Optics, Barnes Bullets, Hunter’s Specialties and Birchwood Casey. First-class lodging on the ranch is included and each junior hunter will receive Federal Premium ammunition loaded with non-lead Barnes copper bullets from Federal Cartridge Company, a pair of high-quality binoculars from Alpen Optics, plus hunting and shooting equipment from Hunter’s Specialties and Birchwood Casey.

To date, 115 junior hunters have participated in these hunts and 114 have taken home a deer to share with their family. For over 95% of these juniors, this was their first deer.
