Motivation, Accountability, Goals
Ever have one of those weeks where you just don’t have the drive to hit the gym or workout? Lately, I have been trying to dig myself out of a rut. I am not writing this looking for a pity party or ‘atta-boys’ for work I have done in the past. The past is just that, the past. I am keeping myself accountable and letting you all know that I am human and I falter. This brings to mind the SNL sketch with the late Chris Farley and his ‘I live in a van down by the river’ motivational speeches. Cracks me up, but not what I need.
The last week for me has been terrible as far as me staying on top of working out. I had a great run on Monday and then my back got sore. Not sure if it was truly sore or if it was in my mind, but I stopped working out. Call it the easy way out, lack of motivation or just apathy, but I didn’t feel like going. I didn’t want to run the same circle at work for 45 minutes. I didn’t want to go to the gym at 11:00 PM and usually by that time I was whooped and had already fallen asleep. I went home, spent time with my family and by 11:00 PM every night I was either passed out or trying to finish up some project.
When I got up this morning my belt felt a bit snug and I knew my apathy, not eating properly and self-imposed project stress had taken a toll. It wasn’t over the top, but enough where I felt the swift kick of my fellow bowhunters telling me, ‘Ok, you had an off week. Now suck it up, quit whining and get back after it!’ Good motivation right there, but am going to ask for more assistance. I know that is what I need to do, but I thrive on working out with someone telling me to do more or push further.
Question of the Week: Are there any local bowhunters who have a membership to 24-Hour Fitness in Cypress, CA who want to train a couple times a week? My schedule is flexible and I could seriously use a partner for some weight training. I refuse to pay for a trainer when I know what I need to do, I am just NOT doing it. So if there are any of you out there locally that want to meet up a couple times a week, I am game. Looking to meet up at either 5:30 AM or in the evenings a couple times a week for some weight training. If you do want to train, shoot me an email and let’s get this going! I am also game for an early Saturday meet up for a trail run or hike with some weighted backpacks. Accountability and support are going to be needed for this endeavor and I sure need some.
My goal is still to be down only ten more lbs of fat, slightly increase my muscle mass and keep my cardio level ever rising. When the Fall hunting seasons hit I want to be ready to hit the mountains in stride and feel positive about each day I am out there. Time for some oatmeal, water and a set a plan to stay focused on my goals.
