We’ve had a few weeks to settle back in and review what we think are the top gear items from SHOT Show (that we had to to see). There were so many to share that I may have to share a few more in the future, but these are the top companies that caught our eye. They are in no particular order.
XTech Tactical Smart Laser – One of the best new inventions we’ve seen that allows different phases of light or laser (whichever you choose) when you break the plane of the sensor with your finger. Incredible design and so much fun to use.!
Amend2 Magazines – I love when a company sees that we are from California, but insists on talking to us and sharing about their products. The Amend2 team went through their new magazine design with fervor. They have a great design and they even thought about those of us with restrictions on magazines. I hope to pick up a couple of these soon the utilize with a new rifle build.
Juggernaut Tactical Glock Modifications – Based right here in Anaheim, CA, these guys have always impressed me, but this year was a bit more so. While they have the Hellfighter Mod Kit for those in NY and CA, the new Glock Mods were impressive as well. Simple, yet very effective.
Pelican 1730 Double Bow Case – Another SoCal company with gear I have used for years, Pelican had many of their cases on display, but the 1730 Double Bow case was what caught my eye. When I stopped over, Shane demonstrated how effective the case it with minimal padding. With enough room for both bows and not having to take off my sight or stabilizer, I’m sold. Time for an upgrade to be travel cases.
Polymer80 Lower for Glock – These guys always have great new products, but because of California laws of old, we have only briefly talked with them. This year, we opted to stop in and talk about a lower replacement for my Glock 20SF. The Polymer80 team was quick to get one in my hands to shoot (.45 caliber, but similar to what I would feel) . I absolutely loved the texture, feel and it helped me stay on target. Be on the lookout for innovative polymer lowers from them.
HOWA bolt-action rifles – Bolt-action rifles are a passion of mine. HOWA’s line of hunting rifles have always been a favorite of mine. After shooting a few of them in 2018 and enjoying the experience, I really wanted to go over them again in the booth. My photographer is looking to get into bolt-action rifle shooting, so we spent a great deal of time talking with Mark at the HOWA booth. Bill and I both checked out the many rifles and we could see that not only do you get a quality rifle, but they come at a great price. Be on the lookout for some new things with the SoCal Bowhunter and HOWA in 2020.
Seahorse Cases Double Rifle Case – The new case from Seahorse is a beast. It’s longer that the original rifle case, has four wheels instead of two, and seems a bit more rugged. After talking with their marketing team and going through the case a couple times, I am impressed with the new offerings. There’s a new case coming soon that I think will be another great addition to their lineup. Another SoCal company with more firearms related protection brings a smile to my face.
MPT Defend Lubricant and Corrosion Inhibitor – While I only briefly talked with the young lady at the booth, I read up on what the corrosion inhibitor does and how it protects. This is one of those products that would be great for firearm owners who store their firearms in a damp area (not recommended) or simply don’t shoot very often. I will be talking with them more to get the full rundown of the product.
Vortex Optics Razor 1-10×24 Scope – Gear can sometimes surprise me. The Razor 1-10×24 is not only crystal clear, but the more you zoom in, the more features you are introduced to. All of us had a chance to try it out at the booth and loved it. It just makes me want to go build another rifle so I can add this to it.
Mag Storage Solutions – Normally, I don’t think about mag storage. I take my 10-rounders out to the range, load them up and shoot. Then they sit in my range bag until the next time I go out. These systems they created allow you to get those magazines off the ground, organized, and make everything look nice. The magnetic system in the grab-n-go bag was most surprising. Another simple design that no one had available. Our resident firearms expert will be looking at these more in depth.
Mora Knives – For years, my bush craft friends and hiking bloggers have been telling me to check out More Knives. Stubborn as I am, I met with them on Day 1 and I am so glad I did. Not only do they have some of the most solid knives, they have the new Floating Knife this year. This will be perfect for those using their knife out on the water. We will be field-testing this one and sharing our results later this spring.
